German International School New York receives recommendation for NYSAIS accreditation renewal

German International School New York (GISNY) is pleased to announced that it recently completed the rigorous accreditation renewal process with New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) and once again was recommended for accreditation.  NYSAIS is authorized by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools’ (NAIS) Commission on Accreditation.

GISNY’s NYSAIS accreditation renewal is in addition to the Certificate of Excellence the school has twice received from Germany’s Central Administration for Schools Abroad, most recently in 2014.

“Our NYSAIS accreditation renewal underscores the continued success of our bilingual program and our mission to educate students who are open-minded, tolerant, and globally aware, all while building an inclusive, international community,” said Ulrich Weghoff, GISNY’s Head of School.

According to Dr. Mark W. Lauria, NYSAIS Executive Director, “German International School New York is to be commended for their participation in this important process of self-improvement.  The rigorous accreditation process that each NYSAIS school undergoes represents a significant commitment of time and energy allowing the school and NYSAIS to thoroughly exam all facets of the school as part of the continuous improvement that is needed to best serve students and their families.”

A NYSAIS accreditation represents the culmination of an in-depth self-study that includes an exhaustive internal and external examination of all aspects of the school community including mission and culture, governance, educational program, student and student services, finance and school operations, parents, faculty and non-teaching personnel, community relations, and communications.  Through a process of continual self-improvement that includes visiting teams of professionals from outside the school community, German International School New York  has fulfilled the accreditation requirements for an independent school.

GISNY is located in White Plains, just 25 miles north of New York City, and currently enrolls 427 students in Pre-K through Grade 12.  The school has limited openings in their Kindergarten/Eingangsstufe classes for the 2016-2017 school year.  For more information, please visit www.gisny.org/admissions or email admissions@gisny.org.
