CityKinder - Super Soccer Stars Class starting June 10th!

CityKinder partnered with Super Soccer Stars to offer soccer classes for toddlers & preschoolers age 3-5. During the 50 minutes class, parents have the opportunity to mingle on the sidelines while the little ones having fun in the sun learning basic techniques and team skills.

Super Soccer Stars teaches soccer skills in a fun, non-competitive and educational environment. Through an age-specific curriculum, classes use soccer to nurture, build self-confidence and develop teamwork. Low child-to-coach ratios and positive reinforcement ensure that each child improves at his or her own pace while having a blast.

We are starting with a 4 weeks spring session Sundays in Central Park and plan to offer additional times and locations based on demand.

The Country Day Nursery School is offering anevening for a Lecture with Dr. Brian Collins on Tuesday, May 22 at 7:30PM. Dr. Collins is professor on Hunters College in New York City and is specialized in dual language development (bilingualism) in young children.

This is a great opportunity for parents and educators to hear him speak, listen about his many years of research and learn more about bilingualism. We are all very excited to welcome him at CDNS. There will be of course a question and answer period at the end of the lecture.

Touch-A-Truck Street Fair and Fundraiser - May 19, 2012

The West Side YMCA invites kids and parents to make a “play date” at the Touch-A-Truck Street Fair and Fundraiser, a hands-on fair for kids. As the leading nonprofit for strengthening community, the Y holds events to bring families together to engage in fun, active play and learn healthier habits that help them grow and thrive.

At Touch-A-Truck, kids will have a chance to come and touch, climb on, sit in and experience many of the trucks they see in their everyday life. Families will enjoy a day of fun, food and entertainment with activities such as arts and crafts, games, face painting, music, and more. Also, Mike Messer from The Dirty Sock Funtime Band will give a live performance. Popular food vendors include Magnolia Bakery, Drink WAT-AAH!, Pirate’s Booty, and Bakery Soutine. Food trucks attending will consist of Red Hook Lobster Pound Truck, Kelvin’s Natural Slush Co., Milk Truck Grilled Cheese, Kimchi Taco, Wafels & Dinges, and Valduccis Original Pizza Truck.

Touch-A-Truck takes place from 10AM to 4PM at West 64th Street between Broadway and Central Park West in NYC.

Pusteblume German Language Preschool
Set to Open in New York City

Pre-opening Celebration and Fundraiser May 17

New York, NY (May 3, 2012) – On May 17, New York City's German-speaking community will gather for A Dandelion Grows on 14th Street, the pre-opening celebration and fundraiser for Pusteblume German Language Preschool. To help raise the goal of $100,000 for the independent, not-for-profit preschool, donors and friends will come for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at the school’s newly-renovated, light-filled 5,000 square foot facility on West 14th Street.

Pusteblume, which means dandelion in German, is designed for children 30 months to 5 years who have a solid link to the German language at home. To meet the needs of working parents, Pusteblume offers revolving registration and month-to-month enrollment in full-time (6 hour) or full-time plus (9 hour) programs for toddlers aged 30 months to 3 years, preschoolers aged three to four years, and pre-K for children aged four to five years. Pusteblume will operate year-round offering a program steeped in the European heritages of the German language.

“After three years of planning, we are thrilled to be opening our doors,” says Pusteblume Founder and President Lauren Oberbannscheidt. “It is so important to impart language and culture to young children. Manhattan has not had a meaningful German language preschool program for a long time and we are grateful to the donors who are helping us make the school a reality. Pusteblume will be a place where our community can come together, where our children can speak their language and be proud of their unique heritages and cultures.

“We have big plans for the future,” Ms. Oberbannscheidt continues. “Once the preschool is underway, we plan to launch a German language afterschool program for grades K through 6. And we’ll partner with Friends of the German International School of New York in the effort to build a K-12 international school in Manhattan with German as one of the featured languages. But first, at Pusteblume, we want to see our preschoolers thriving like dandelions.”
