In a renaming ceremony held on Tuesday, September 2nd, Deutsche Schule New York (DSNY) officially changed its name to German International School New York (or G.I.S. for short).  This new name proudly recognizes the increasingly multinational and multicultural composition of its student body and reflects GIS’s goal of developing inquisitive, open-minded and socially aware global citizens.

Speakers at the ceremony included:
Ulrich Weghoff, Head of School
Brita Wagener, Consul General of Germany
The Honorable Thomas Roach, Mayor of White Plains

Afterwards, the Board of Trustees members and distinguished guests attended a champagne reception.  Also in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Ernst-Richard Matthiensen.  Mr. Matthiensen is one of the original founders of the school, which was founded in 1980.

Check out the brand new website and keep your eyes open for upcoming Open Houses and a Prospective Parents Night for New York City families.
