In addition to the German Embassy in Washington, DC, there are eight German Consulates General throughout the United States. Each Consulate covers a specific geographical area. The New York’s Consulate General’s area of jurisdiction covers the Tri-State-Area, including: Bermuda, Connecticut (Fairfield County), New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
The main task of the German Consulate is to offer consular and legal assistance to U.S. residents and German citizens. The Cultural Department offers links to German cultural organizations and information portals, and is responsible for the organization of musical, artistic and political events at the German House New York. The Political Department gives the German government a comprehensive view of political developments in NYC and the Tri-State-Area. It maintains a constant dialogue with all major American Jewish organizations based in New York and cultivates its close relationship with them. Helping journalists do their job is the responsibility of the Press Department – from up-to-date topics, to background information, to assistance with research. If you are looking for information about the German economy, chambers of commerce, trade relations, German conventions and trade fairs, working in Germany, import/export regulations and customs restrictions the Economics Department is eager to help you.
