Since its inception in 2004 Wortspiele has undergone several transitions from NYC’s first, Brooklyn based, German early childhood program to the state-of-the-art preschool it is today.
What has never changed is our commitment to providing outstanding progressive education in a warm and supportive setting that respects and values the individuality and uniqueness of each child as much as the classroom community we build together.
Today, Wortspiele provides academic excellence within a nurturing and stimulating environment, combining a comprehensive Montessori curriculum with cutting edge scientific research and progressive practices from the Bank Street approach, to offer our students a developmentally appropriate and highly effective learning experience, equal to the finest preschools in NYC.
While our pedagogy is designed to help children develop German as a second native language, it emphasizes and fosters independence, creativity, flexibility, curiosity, empathy, a love of learning, cooperation, strong self-esteem and problem-solving skills in our students – qualities that will serve your children well, growing up as young New Yorkers. "Our daughter has been attending Wortspiele for 2 years. It was warm and welcoming place, just like a home. The entire staff care deeply about the children, they’re able to maintain a very close relationship, are very involved and aware of everything that goes on in these young lives. They always have an open door for any questions and concerns and are truly interested in the lives of every one of their young students. They guide them with a loving and firm hand. Christine selects the topics for the classroom based on what is happening in the world around them (the changing weather, seasons, holidays, festivals, etc.) and also what they the children themselves are interested in. And this is all done in a fun, engaging and interesting manner. They don’t even realize just how much they are learning and we love it when our daughter comes home excited to tell and share just how much she has done and learned. This also goes hand in hand with the social skills, such as getting along, sharing, being empathetic."Judith S.
"My son has been a part of the Wortspiele community for the past three years. He has thrived in the environment that Christine and her team provide and has learned so much. There are many things to love about Wortspiele, from the music and theater performers who come in each week, to trips to the Botanic Gardens, to playtime outside, arts & crafts, the sense of community and friendship between the children - but my favorite of all is that each child is accepted for who they are. Christine truly knows the children, she cares about them, she spends time discussing needs or concerns with the parents. She fosters the children’s talents and helps them grow based on their levels and needs - all under the premise that everyone is okay the way they are."F. W.
