CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:
Classes will be in-person or live virtual sessions on Zoom that will incorporate: book readings, song singing, worksheets, a sharing time (to spur discussion amongst the children in German) and other playful activities. As such, please be respectful of class time and strive for punctuality.

Primary Class (ages 5-6)
This class teaches children to learn and practice German through playful activities that encourage the kids to communicate in German. The curriculum is filled with activities that encourage language and literacy development in young children, e.g. rhythmic games and playing with syllables and letters. Reading and writing are introduced through games and other supplemental learning materials.

Lower Elementary (ages 7-8)
This class teaches children to focus on conversation, expand their vocabulary and work on Grammar, as well as reading and writing in German. Reading and writing is introduced within the learning topic. Other supplemental learning materials are supporting the reading and writing development as well.

Elementary (ages 9-10)
This class focuses on conversation. A strong literary component also ensures that the students not only listen, speak and play in German, but read and write, as well as work on grammar. The topics are chosen according to children’s interests to provide a fun yet educational environment similar to schools in Germany.

Upper Elementary (ages 11-12)
This class is for students who are already communicating well, but need to work on grammar and orthography. Students will apply word analysis and vocabulary skills to comprehend selections and they will read and comprehend unfamiliar words using root words, synonyms, antonyms, word origins and derivations.

Teenager (ages 13-15)
Through the various reading of different stories and hands-on activities, students will make inferences, draw conclusions, compare and contrast, summarize stories, use context clues and establish purposes for reading. We will also focus on thinking and integrating the language process to help students improve their written communication skills.
