Plastic Bag Ban in NYC Starting Soon!

Finally! Starting March 1st, 2020, a new law on the reduction of plastic waste will come into force in the State of New York.

Supermarkets, retail and other stores, will no longer provide free disposable plastic bags for their costumers!
As the law does not only apply to grocery stores, we recommend to always bring your reusable shopping bags with you when you leave the house (as we are used to anyway from back home…).

Many stores will offer an alternative or plastic bags for sale. A plastic alternative could be paper bags. Shops are not required to provide shopping bags free of charge. Some shops may waive the option to have paper available and only offer reusable bags to buy.

Exceptions:
Bags used for bulk goods such as fruit, vegetables, fish and meat, and for prescription drugs are exempt.
