The Deutsches Haus at NYU children’s classes are designed for bilingual children ages 1 to 15, with the aim of providing an environment that fosters existing German language skills and encourages acquisition. Raising children to be bilingual can be difficult; without a group of bilingual peers, children may find the second language frustrating. Deutsches Haus at NYU’s children’s classes provide an exciting alternative. The lessons are interesting and fun, fostering a social atmosphere to make learning new vocabulary and grammar easier for the children.
Toddlers (ages 3 to 4) gain exposure to the language through stories, lots of German songs, games, and craft projects. The primary level (ages 5 to 6) encourages literacy development, at the elementary levels (ages 9 to 10 and 11 to 12), we work on expanding vocabulary, gradually focusing more on orthography and grammar, and at the teenager level (ages 13 to 15) we focus on reading comprehension, and on thinking and integrating the language process to help students improve their written communication skills. All classes are held in German.
Deutsches Haus at NYU also offers a variety of cultural events, including a German Kasperltheater, a St. Martin lantern parade, and celebrations for both St. Nikolaus and Easter. For the time being, all events and classes are virtual via Zoom.

Testimonials
""Uta's clear pronunciation (and patience) is wonderful. Thank you! I don't think Deutsches Haus at NYU could do more on Zoom to engage the kids." - Lynn"CityKinder Admin
""Music/stories/small class size. My daughter can see all the children in her class on her screen at one time. This is SO much better than her (American/public school zoom experience)." - Anonymous"CityKinder Admin
"Our 3 children have been going there for over 2 years and it is an excellent school, if not the best downtown German school. I can only recommend it!"Hermine
